Clinton (Clint) Thaxton, 98 passed away at his home in Hudson, FL on Saturday, August 26. He was born at home on a farm in Mt.Olivet, KY in June of 1925. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Marian Arnold Thaxton; and is survived by his wife of 40 years Joan Thaxton, and five children Barry Thaxton (Barbara) Owensboro, KY, Paul Thaxton (Carol) Alpine AL, Janice Atkins (Mike) Victoria VA, Nancy Akins (Eric) Brandon FL and MaryAnn Zambrano (Jamie) Waycross GA. In addition he had 3 stepchildren Debbi Quinn (Vermont), Edward Lane (Lynda) Vermont, and Jan Jones (Chris) Indiana, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Clint rose from modest beginnings to make the most of the opportunities presented to him very early in life beginning with the Civilian Conservation Corps at 14 years old, then joining the Marines at 16 for WW2 and later in both the Air Force and the Army Reserves. He then transitioned to what would be a long and fulfilling public service career, including the Veterans Administration, the Consular Service, and the Foreign Service within the State Department. His overseas assignments included service in the Philippines, Mexico, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Ecuador.
Clint's retirement years featured two passions, traveling and golf. He was an excellent golfer and was a charter member Beacon Woods Golf Club. He served on the Board of Directors as Treasurer and as President of the club.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Michaels Church in Hudson on Thursday, September 7th at 11:00 AM. He will placed to final rest at Fero Memorial Gardens with Military Honors in Beverly Hills after the service at approximately 1:00 PM.
