Gregory K Cotter Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory K. Cotter on April 1, 2024. After a brief battle with cancer, Greg quietly passed away while at the Marliere Hospice House in Hudson, FL.

Greg was born on May 19, 1947, to Vincent and Donna Cotter, both who preceded him in death. He grew up in West Unity, OH and attended Miami University in Oxford, OH. After graduation, Greg started his distinguished teaching career in the Hudson Michigan Schools. With a high school teaching career which spanned over 35 years, he touched the lives of many students in the classroom, as their coach, or on the road as their driver’s education instructor. The family always enjoyed meeting his driver’s education students as they navigated longer road trips from Hudson down US 127 to West Unity.

On May 25, 1974, he married the love of his life Janice Kay Begole Cotter who proceeded him in death in 2019. They had one daughter Tracy Ann who died shortly after her birth. Jan and Greg loved their careers as teachers and they were always the life of the parties as they entertained at their winter home in Hudson, Florida and their Lake Columbia house in Michigan. Many who attended their annual 4th of July celebration will always remember “breakfast on the raft” and fish appetizer’s followed by their over the top selection of food.

Greg made many friends from his classrooms, the golf courses, his favorite fishing holes, and the many places which he visited. He will truly be missed by friends and family members from around the country.

Greg is survived by his brother Neil (Shirley) Cotter, step-brother David (Sandy) Lockhart, step-brother Joel Lockhart, step-brother Kim (Sandy) Lockhart and twelve nieces and nephews. His sister Shelley (Fred) Hausch proceeded him in death. He will also be missed by Jan’s family: Rick (Janna) Begole and Debbie (Brian) Smith all who live in Florida.

A celebration of life will be planned for Greg and Jan later this year. Greg will be buried beside Janice and Tracey in Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan, Ohio.
