Jeannette Geiger Taegder

1933 — January 17, 2021

Jeannette Geiger Taegder (Roth) born on October 23, 1933 passed away peacefully in her sleep with family at her side after a brief illness on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 12:25 A.M. She was 87 years old. Jeannette was the daughter of William (Bill) and Stefanija (Stella) Roth. She was the wife of 34 years to the late Harry I Geiger (1986) of Montgomery, New York, and later the wife of 19 years to the late Harold Theodore (Ted) Taegder (2014) formerly of Walden, New York. She is survived by her three sons; Harry Geiger of Hudson, Florida; William (Robin Gottlieb 2020) Geiger of Middletown, New York; and Kevin (Sandra) Geiger of Matamoras, Pennsylvania; as well as two grandsons: Kevin Jr. (Samara) and Harrison Geiger; five granddaughters: Melissa (Richard) Carney, Alicia (Jeffery) Fina, Alexandra (Khanna) Karbir, Jacqueline (Renne Guigo) Geiger and Hillary Geiger; two great-grandsons: Chase and Alexander; one great granddaughter: Emmalyn; sister-in-law: Arlene Geiger; a niece: Lynn (John) Arena and two nephews: Herbert (Kimberly) and Scott (Linda) Geiger. She was born at The New York Infirmary for Women and Children of the City of New York City and grew up in Brooklyn and the Bronx. Later her parents moved to Orange County, New York and settled in the Newburgh area where she later met her first husband while working at her parents' restaurant. Jeanette and Harry settled in Montgomery, New York where they lived in the same house for more than 33 years. In 1988 she met Ted at the local widow and widowers club. She was a long-time resident of Hudson, Florida. Jeannette and Ted built their first home in Sea Pines on a canal so they could have easy access to The Gulf for their boating and fishing activities. In 2004 they built their second home on the 16th fairway of the Links Golf Course in the Fairway Oaks community. Settling down finally in 2014, Jeannette had a condominium renovated at the Gulf Island Beach and Tennis Club to again be close to the water. She was an active member at the Hudson First United Methodist Church. She was known to the church office and food pantry as the “Peanut Butter and Jelly Lady” as she made a 24 jar delivery ever week for the Wednesday distribution. Jeannette was member of The Ladies of Sea Ranch Red Hats. She had season tickets for three years to the Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey team and rarely missed a game on TV for the past five years. She remained active and enjoyed many interests which included playing cards and board games with friends and family, boating and fishing in The Gulf, traveling, sight-seeing, cruising and cruise ships, dining out, and mostly visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren via the internet. As her children grew up, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She also volunteered for the Montgomery Little League concession stand and also played on the Montgomery Women's Softball Team. Jeannette was proud and thankful to be a 28-year cancer survivor. There will be a private memorial service held locally for family and friends with the date, time, and place to be announced. Burial services will be held at the Brick Church Cemetery in Montgomery, New York at a future date to be announced. Her final wishes were to please make any gifts or donations being made on her behalf to go to the Hudson First United Methodist Church Mortgage Principal Fund.
