Katherine Baker Worsham

November 11, 1927 — February 21, 2024

Port Richey

Katherine Baker Worsham passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024 at the age of 96 in Hudson, Florida.

She was born on November 6, 1927 at her family home in Mathiston, Mississippi to the late Omer Reese Baker and Eula Ellen Lewis. Due to her rural birthplace, her arrival was not officially recorded until November 11. She was preceded in death by her four younger siblings: Julius Donald Baker, Reese Ellis Baker, Mavis Elouise Gautier, and Dura Nell Lamb.

Katherine is survived by her devoted children Raleigh Elroy Worsham (Janet) of Lakeland, Florida and William Travis Worsham (Suzanne) of Leesburg, Virginia; by her loving grandchildren Candace Anne Worsham, Nicolas Ferrell Worsham (Sonya), Gabriel Seth Worsham (Michelle), Aaron Piet Worsham, Kyle Austin Worsham, Sarah Elizabeth Worsham Cruz (Leslie), Sherry Dianna Worsham, Suzanne Genevieve Worsham Biondi (Richard); and by her beloved great-grandchildren Chrisley Abigale Worsham, Brianna Nicole Worsham, Raleigh Austin Worsham, William Pierce Worsham, Patricia Claire Worsham, Taylor Ann Edwards (Josh), Katherine Elizabeth Cruz, Lakyn Jade Harlow, Wyatt Corey Harlow (Harleigh), Gabriella Suzanne Biondi, and Delia-Anne Travis Biondi.

Katherine grew up on a cotton farm where they also raised their own animals and grew their own vegetables. She attended Payne High School, where she played on the basketball team. She met the late Raleigh Elmore Worsham in a time of war, and they married and had two sons. After their divorce in 1979, she continued a life of adventure. She owned her own business Kathy's Beauty Salon in Annandale, Virginia, which she eventually sold when retiring to Key West, Florida. She then became licensed as a boat captain and had her own fishing yacht called "Miss Kathy". She would later move to West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Jupiter, and finally, Port Richey, Florida where she lived the rest of her life among friends.

Despite Katherine's humble beginnings, she created a wonderful life for herself. She was a world traveler, avid scuba diver, and competitive ballroom dancer. She enjoyed flying as a licensed private pilot, riding motorcycles, fishing, gardening, cooking, and entertaining guests. She loved her family and was a supportive presence at the many weddings, graduations, holidays, and school and sporting events. She had a strong Christian faith and sought to help those around her. Her light and grace were always evident and made a lasting impact on those who knew her. Katherine will be greatly missed by her family, friends, neighbors, and fellow church members, and her life and love will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life, to be announced at a later date, will take place at her son William Travis Worsham's private residence in Leesburg, Virginia.
