It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Renee Marie Smith (Lanala/Corbeil) on December 30th, 2024, at the age of 57. Renee was born on July 11th, 1967, in Grosse Pointe, MI.
Though she spent most of her life in Michigan's upper peninsula, she also lived in Chase, MI, Evart, MI, and Hudson, FL. Renee met the love of her life, Shawn Smith, in September 2014, and they married on June 26th, 2021, at Crittenden Park, Sears, MI surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed camping (and Mischlers), playing cards, visiting, creating stained glass items, and doing crafts. She was very talented in crafts and generous, giving away her completed crafts to show her love and affection for people.
Renee spent her final weeks of life residing with her Husband in Hudson, Florida, where her beloved hot tub was located.
Renee was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, and love and support for her family and friends. Spending time with her grandchildren was always the highlight of her life. They enjoyed joking, laughing, and hanging out. As they grew up, they all affectionately came to know her as Grammie. She always ended a call or text to the grandchildren with “Love you mostest”.
She is survived by her husband, Shawn Smith; her Beloved dog, Buddie; her daughters, Jessica Paquet (Andy) of L'Anse, MI, and Danielle Connor of Muskegon, MI; Her Grandchildren, Christian Collins, Nathan Wade, Aubrey Paquet, and Whitney Pearce; and her Father-in-Law, John Smith of Sanford, MI. Renee is also survived by multiple siblings, half-siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In honor of her final wishes, Renee's remains will be split between the family, with some of her ashes spread at various locations. A gathering is being planned for this upcoming summer at the Crittenden Park in Sears, MI where friends and family will gather in her memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation https://www.bcrf.org or your local animal shelter in Renee’s name.
